WHY LLAMAS?

Owning llamas comes with a variety of benefits. They are gentle, friendly animals that can serve as great companions and even therapy animals. Additionally, their wool is soft and hypoallergenic, making it perfect for various crafts and textiles.

Llamas are also excellent for guarding livestock, as they have a natural instinct to protect.

They are excellent pack animals - strong, sure-footed, and gentle on trails. They can carry up to 25-30% of their body weight, making them ideal for hiking.

ABOUT NK ACRES

We got married in June of 2020 and were fortunate enough to be able to live on my husband's childhood farm soon after. Slowly we started to clean up the property and both found a love for projects, it helped that we were both already big about loving being in the outdoors. Sooner than we thought, we started adding animals to our farm. We started out with chickens - our neighbor/friends gifted them to us shortly after we finished remodeling a small shed which we then turned into a coop for those chickens. Not too long after this, my husband's grandparents surprised us with two pygmy goats! There's an old barn on our property, well preserved, that we cleaned up to house them. Our farm was growing and we wanted to be able to protect the animals from predators as best we could. We wanted something unique yet able to guard our animals. We came across llamas as an option on the internet. Fate must have been on our side because there was a llama farm VERY close to us (RTC Llama Ranch) that we heard of through the grape-vine. Once we took a tour of RTC's farm, we were hooked. We purchased two llamas as guard animals; however, we soon experienced llama showing and learned more about the breeding process and were fascinated with every aspect of it. We went from two llamas in 2023 to now owning 12!
